3D Areola Tattoo

Treatment

3D Areola Micropigmentation
For post-mastectomy patients and following gender-affirming top surgery a patient may lose one or both areolas. In these cases, the gift of a realistic areola tattoo can be a milestone in a long journey, offering significant emotional healing.
In some mastectomy cases, a “nipple sparing” procedure (sparing of the nipple-areola complex) may fail, or result in a compromised areola aesthetic. Further genetic or medical conditions may influence the color and size of the areola. Other breast surgeries (such as reduction or enhancement) may result in areola shape or color anomalies. In all such cases, areola restoration techniques can render optimal shape, color and bilateral matching results.
Radiation, surgery or a failed nipple sparing procedure, may result in necrotic tissue. In such cases, a patient may still get a 3D areola tattoo, with their physician’s approval. A tattoo on treated necrotic tissue will be performed with more procedural care, as this tissue is more vulnerable. This treatment may require a different needle configuration, and 2-3 shorter treatments utilizing fewer passes. This will all be accessed during the intake, and in carefully monitoring tissue responsiveness during the first treatment.
If you are unhappy with a current 3D areola tattoo, done by a different artist, which may have faded or needs more realism aesthetic, I offer an existing areola tattoo correction.
I take a highly personalized and artistic approach to areola creation. Trained by three different master artists, with unique techniques and styles, I’ve incorporated what I feel are the best to create my own approach for the most realistic result.
A unilateral procedure takes approximately 1-1.5 hours, and a bilateral around 1.5-2 hours—time includes intake and numbing cream application, when needed. A follow-up session will be set 6 weeks post initial tattoo, to access any needed touch-ups.
In all breast surgeries, there will likely be resulting surgical scars which can be camouflaged in tandem with areola creation. Additional scar camouflage treatment is discounted when booked in tandem with an areola tattoo procedure. Surgical scars must be fully healed prior to tattoo treatment.
My areola tattoos, are true tattoos (as opposed to permanent makeup micropigmentation) insofar as I use both needle cartridges and inks specifically formulated for areola, and the pigment will be deposited deeper. Therefore, your areola tattoo is designed to last like a traditional tattoo. However, there are some exceptions to this which you can read more about this and the areola ink options on the ALL ABOUT INKS page.
Full healing is achieved after 28 days.
