What is Medical Tattoo?

Medical tattoo, also referred to as paramedical, involves using procedure-specific, specialized tattoo machines and needle cartridges along with inks or serums to address a variety of medical conditions adversely impacting skin aesthetics.

Micropigmentation
The tattoo industry is largely unregulated, leaving terminology up to the individual practitioner, often resulting in confusion. Micropigmentation, and dermapigmentation, are essentially fancy words for tattoo, common to the Permanent Makeup (PMU) industry. Permanent Makeup is also called Cosmetic Tattoo. Medical Tattoo falls under the Permanent Makeup umbrella, insofar as there are specific machines, needle cartridges and inks designed for collective PMU aesthetic procedures.
PMU machines do not deposit the ink as far into the skin as traditional tattoo machines, thereby being safer and achieving better results for the finer detail work of aesthetic treatments. There is also a great variety of highly stylized “micro” needles and cartridge configurations (manufactured with superior standards), designed specifically to address the manifold complexities of PMU procedures, and in the case of Medical Tattoo, to address the myriad skin types and tissue anomalies inherent to scars, skin conditions and skin damage.
Your Guide to Medical Tattoo:
Innovations, Personalization, and Care

01
Industry Advances
Today’s ever evolving PMU and skin products have come a long way from the industry’s infancy, resulting in a world of inks, machines, needles and serums. Advances lend to greater safety, specialized color pallets, color control (colors which won’t change over time) and a wealth of varietal specialty brands. Serums used in machine microneedling have also benefitted from industry innovation. If you are new to Medical Tattoo you have entered at a wonderful time.
Individualized Approach
The body as a canvass is diverse and unique in its responsiveness to a medical tattoo treatment. For this reason, a medical intake and discussion about potential risks, goals and expectations is pivotal to optimal outcomes. I am not a physician, so if a specific topic is out of my scope, I will suggest further resources. I offer a complimentary phone consultation prior to booking to address any questions you may have so that you can determine which treatment is best for you.
02
Contraindications
Medical tattoo and machine microneedling procedures are not advisable for keloid scars; active skin conditions such as psoriasis; pregnant/nursing women; persons taking blood-thinners (including prescription drugs or supplements); on steroid medication; who have a bacterial or viral infection; or persons undergoing chemotherapy or serious immune compromising medical treatments. If you are taking blood-thinners please stop them one week prior to treatment.
I cannot do a treatment on a skin condition or scar until it is fully healed. Depending on the severity, this can take anywhere from 3 months to a year. If a scar is still pink or red in color, it is not yet healed and is not ready for Medical Tattoo.
